Iron Snout
Iron Snout is a fighting game developed by the Lithuanian indie studio SnoutUp and released in 2016. It stars a small piglet who is a martial arts master, surrounded by hungry wolves. Instead of moving around the level, the piglet stands in place and uses quick directional attacks to fight back. Its fast pace, slapstick humor and creative use of enemy weapons made it a hit on browsers and Steam.
Wolves attack from the left, right and above. Use attacks in the matching direction to knock them away. Wolves sometimes throw or drop weapons and objects, which you can catch and use against them. Survive as long as possible to set a high score.
Iron Snout shows how much action can come from just four directions. Every fight is a quick test of reflexes and pattern recognition, and the cartoon violence keeps things lighthearted. Its success led to a sequel-style follow-up, Bacon May Die, from the same developer.
One of the most fun parts of Iron Snout is the variety of objects wolves throw or drop. Catching an axe, bone, bomb or other item lets the piglet turn the wolves' own weapons against them. Using these items creatively is key to surviving longer and achieving high scores. Experimenting with different weapons also adds plenty of humor to each fight.
Its short rounds make Iron Snout perfect for quick breaks, while chasing a higher score gives longer sessions a clear goal.
