Untitled Goose Game
Untitled Goose Game was developed by the Australian studio House House and released in September 2019. Its premise, "It's a lovely morning in the village, and you are a horrible goose," became an internet sensation. The game won the D.I.C.E. Award for Game of the Year, and its playful piano soundtrack, based on Debussy, reacts to every honk and chase.
The goose has a to-do list for each area of the village. Tasks include stealing a gardener's keys, getting a boy to buy his own toy back or making someone wear the wrong glasses. Completing enough tasks opens the path to the next area. There is no combat and no game over; if a villager catches you, they simply take back what you stole.
The goose has a small set of actions; the browser version shows its key bindings in the controls menu:
Untitled Goose Game shows how a single funny idea can carry an entire game. House House built every system around the goose's limited abilities: it cannot talk, use tools or fight, so all its mischief must come from honking, grabbing and running away. Villagers react in believable ways, and the dynamic piano score follows your every move, rising during chases and falling quiet when you sneak. The game's short length, around three hours for the main story, makes it perfect for playing in small sessions while still feeling complete.
